Sumi is a member of the 62 Group of Textile artists.

  • Exciting news!! We are exhibiting our ‘Threads of Time’ exhibition in the Robert Phillips Gallery at the River house Barn in Walton On Thames Wednesday 25th November to Sunday 29th November 2026 and at South Hill Park in February 2027.
  • I hope to see as many of you creating and exhibiting your fabulous work as possible, our speakers have always highlighted to me how impressed they are by the work our members create.
  • To exhibit we will need an exhibition team, I know some members expressed an interest at our last AGM , if you are still able to help or would like to volunteer please contact Jo Saunders.
  • The roles required are:
  • -Marketing - design and distribution of flyers.
  • -Collection and transportation of members work -at the November meeting pieces will be handed in and stored and transported to and from the venue.
  • -Stewarding

Below is a summary of the theme and attached is a password protected file with further information for members wishing to take part.  The password is available on WhatsApp or by contacting either the group's co-ordinator or the the treasurer.

Explore the idea of artefacts not just as historical objects, but as personal, cultural, or symbolic items that tell a story. Create a modern interpretation of an "artefact" inspired by either:
● A real historical object
● A personal/family object
● Or a fictional/futuristic artefact

These have been contributed by CQ members from first-timers to well-known professional quilters showcasing 51 interpretations of the theme 'Something Completely Different' using a range of techniques and media enriched by their background stories.
We enjoyed, and analysed these A3-size quilts - safe to say there was something for everyone in this amazing collection.  We cannot shsow photographs of members' work here, but there are some examples in the Suitcase Collection.

Sandra Meech was our speaker, who has spent much time in Canada and Somerset.  Her inspiration comes from her location, journeys and how her art responds to her surroundings.  Her techniques include mark making, mono prints and stitching from her many sketchbooks.

Following the AGM we welcomed Emilia Biddlescombe and Amy Stevens, two 2023 textile graduates from UCA who shared the inspiration for their final year projects.  They had brought a variety of examples of their work and explained some of the techniques to us.  After lunch they lead an off-loom weaving workshop, where we created our own woven textile piece.  We shared resources and made a variety of useful mug mats!
